課程概述

This course provides students the opportunity to develop the skills needed to identify patients with medical conditions outside the scope of physical therapy practice. The focus is on differential diagnosis through subjective history and physical examination as well as understanding conditions that necessitate an immediate referral without initiation of treatment. The information presented in this course is applicable to all practice settings. 

課程目標
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Cognitive:
1. Recognize yellow and red flags
2. Recognize contraindications to physical therapy interventions
3. Differentiate information from a subjective history and physical examination that suggests mechanical dysfunction vs. non-mechanical condition
4. Identify patients in clinical vignettes who require immediate medical attention and should not begin treatment vs. those who can initiate treatment and seek medical attention concurrently
5. Identify the most common pathological signs and symptoms of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, hepatic, hematologic, endocrine, immune, and psychological systems
6. Recognize the most common signs and symptoms of primary and metastatic cancer
7. Recognize headaches that require medical attention vs. those that require immediate medical attention

Psychomotor:
1. Perform special tests to assess for fracture
2. Perform special tests to assess for conditions affecting the abdominal viscera
3. Perform an assessment for suspect deep vein thrombosis.
